European City of Sport have teamed up with CV Life, Year of Wellbeing and The Sporting Memories Foundation to bring an event to Coventry for those that have fond memories of sport from years ago.
The free event will be held at The Transport Museum, Thursday 28 November, 12noon – 2pm.
It will be a great opportunity for people to reminisce on their happy memories of sport. The memories do not have to be of playing an elite sport, they can be memories of being a part of the old work’s sports team, being a super supporter of sport back in the day or even a sofa supporter.
The aim of the day is to give those over 50 the chance to talk to others about their memories of sport in a comfortable environment and gather all of your sporting memories in one place.
There will be sport themed activities to enjoy and refreshments on offer too.
The Sporting Memories Foundation targets those that could be isolated due to health problems by bringing them together to talk about something they all have in common; a love for sport.
Any memory that involves sport or a family member enjoying sport in some way is what we would like to hear about.
Councillor Kamran Caan, Cabinet Member for Sport and Public Health, said: “What a lovely event for the people of Coventry. Calling out to anyone that has fantastic stories and memories of how they engaged with sport years ago.
“Whilst we host some great sporting events, not all of them are targeted at this age or those with health issues. It’s really important to be able to have events for everyone, and events like Sporting Memories definitively fill those gaps.
“Hearing the stories from those that attend will be really special for us and a great addition to our celebration this year as European City of Sport”.
Bringing props or memorabilia to the event to talk about or display at the event is welcome.
