The free event is taking place on 28 November, 12noon - 2pm at The Transport Museum in the Starley Suite.

Sporting Memories is aimed a anyone over 50 that has a fantastic memory of sport; competing, playing with the old work’s team, an avid supporter or watching it with loved ones.

There will be speakers explaining about the interesting history of sport in the city along with ex-professional athletes sharing their memories and memorabilia at the event.

Free hot and cold soft drinks along with a buffet will be available to enjoy.

Before you grab a bite to eat, activities such as boccia, Subbuteo, dominoes and cards will be on offer.

Dave Moorcroft, Executive Director and Chair of European City of Sport, said: “European City of Sport has hosted so many fantastic events for all ages and abilities, but recently we have been focusing on events aimed at those that are a little older. That makes Sporting Memories really important to us as it’s essential we give all individual age groups the opportunity to get involved in some form of physical activity.

“Sporting Memories will be a great event. It’s informal, all about getting people talking, laughing and enjoying themselves. I’m really looking forward to getting to know some more history about sports in the city, hearing the happy memories from everyone at the event of course sharing my own.”

The Sporting Memories Foundation targets those that could be isolated due to health problems by bringing them together to talk about something they all have in common; a love for sport.
