Published Friday, 10 January 2020

Coventry Smashes Sport Week – the European City of Sport finale event – commences this Saturday, 11 January and spans over nine days until 20 January 2020.

Coventry smashes sport week

The events are city-wide to ensure as many can get involved in physical and wellbeing activity as possible.

The week will be inclusive for all, showcasing a variety of both public and private events that will make the week accessible to all ages and abilities.

The week consists of a huge variety of activities with everything from street dancing to wellbeing activities, and Waves Raves to the Monday Mile.

Coventry Smashes Sport Week is a great way to end the city’s year of sport and mark the beginning of a new year that continues to celebrate sport and the achievements made as a city in 2019.

Councillor Kamran Caan, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Sport, said: “Coventry Smashes Sport Week is a brilliant way of getting schools, clubs and workplaces active at the same time. It’s nine days of activity for the whole city and is a great way of rounding up the fantastic events we have held.

“We have targeted all ages and abilities for the week to ensure all can be involved. The City of Sport team are holding the event in January as it is the perfect time for everyone to re-start or begin adding physical activity into their lives. It’s also a great way to mark the beginning of sport, physical and wellbeing activity being continued and encouraged in Coventry.”

You can get involved in Coventry Smashes Sport Week by engaging with public events organised by European City of Sport or it is still not too late to host activities in your school, workplace or sports club.

The activity can be as long or as short as you wish and does not have to be strictly sport; it can be any form of physical or wellbeing activity in Coventry.

Throughout the week, many of the activities are free or discounted for Coventry residents that hold a Go CV card. You can sign up for your Go CV card online and collect and validate in many city centre locations.

The schedule for the week is available to view or download on the Coventry Smashes Sport Week event page.
