50m pool at the Alan Higgs Centre now open

Published Monday, 24 February 2020

Coventry people can now take the plunge and enjoy the city’s great new 50m pool.

The pool opened today, 24 February and has already seen huge interest and usage from the public.

Costing £13.5m, Coventry City Council and Sport England funded the project that is now another great addition to the city’s fantastic sporting facilities.

Special features of the pool include the moving floor that can be raised to deck level and be lowered all the way to two metres. The pool can be divided into smaller sections using a boom, making it suitable for all events including swimming lessons and galas while also being suitable for swimmers of all ages and abilities.

A pool pod to hoist users with disabilities is available along with fully accredited Changing Places facilities.

Councillor Kamran Caan, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Sport, said: “The 50m pool is officially open and I am so thrilled. I know how much hard work was put into the project and how much excitement there was for the official opening of the pool. I’m really excited that we can finally get a dip in there.”

The pool is located at the back of the building where the indoor 3G pitch once was, surrounded by a large seating area with a capacity of 500 people.

Paul Breed, Chief Executive for CV Life, said: “Along with the 50m pool, I’m really excited about the fact that we have also renovated and expanded the fitness suite at The Alan Higgs Centre along with the new changing rooms, health suite and function room with views of the pool.

“I really want people to feel like they are always welcome at the new pool – and of course the rest of our facilities. We can start to build more memories and get more people active with our exciting new sporting facility.”

Public swims are available on a pay-as-you-go basis or get unlimited access with Lifestyles Membership which allows access to other CV Life operated centres including The Wave, Xcel Leisure Centre and Centre AT7.

Swimming lessons are now open for bookings at The Alan Higgs Centre with Aquarius Swim School with lessons commencing 2 March 2020.

Timetables for swims and activities are available online.
