Children’s Services still protecting most vulnerable

Published Thursday, 26 March 2020

Coventry’s Children’s Services staff are working hard to ensure the city’s most vulnerable young people are supported during the COVID-19 virus.

While the restrictions in place over Coronavirus pose a considerable challenge, critical services are being maintained.

John Gregg, Director of Children’s Services, said: “This is an unprecedented period and we have all had to learn very quickly how to work differently. But I want to reassure people that while we are of course respecting the restrictions in place, we most certainly are managing to maintain our service.

“I have seen so many good examples from staff going the extra mile to make sure they can still deliver good protection, support and intervention to vulnerable families.”

Cllr Pat Seaman, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, added: “I know the pride our staff take in their work and I want to thank them for rising to the challenge so quickly and so well to carry on protecting our children.

“However, safeguarding children is everyone’s business and I would urge people to continue reporting appropriately if they have a concern. Isolation will be difficult for everyone so please look after each other.”
