The Pod donates meals for some of city's most vulnerable

The Pod Café team – based in Far Gosford Street – have been busy preparing and distributing healthy meals to people affected by COVID-19 by donating them free of charge to Feeding Coventry.

The team have partnered with Foleshill Community Centre Social Supermarket which is part of Feeding Coventry, to provide plant-based meals using ingredients they grow on their allotment.

The café has been making and distributing around 70 meals with handmade bread a week, using volunteers on bike and trailer, to take the food to the Social Supermarket.

Councillor Faye Abbott, who has helped set up the Community Social Supermarket, said:

‘We’re so grateful to the Pod Café for the support they’ve given some of the most needy members of the community by providing meals free of charge to us, so we can include them in the £4.00 package to the vulnerable through the Community Social Supermarket.  It’s fantastic that they have donated these meals and we can keep costs low so that people don’t feel stigmatised or financially excluded and there has been a great response from people receiving help

‘Thank you to everyone who has supported the project either financially or in giving up your time and energy.’

Gerda Dunn, Service Manager for Internal Provider Services, added:

‘The Pod has always been socially conscious and during the current COVID-19 pandemic, our members have been keen to continue to support those in most need and have partnered with Feeding Coventry.  It’s wonderful so many of our Time Union members have volunteered to cycle so that we can extend our reach and nourish hearts and minds as well as put food on the table.’

If you want to support The Pod’s initiative, the ‘pay forward’ scheme allows you to buy on line 1 meal for £2 or 3 meals for £5 with the assurance that the meals will reach people connected to The Pod and all of its allied projects.
