Celebrating the city’s volunteers

Published Friday, 05 June 2020

This week marks the annual celebration of volunteers across the country.

Whilst the Covid-19 pandemic may have stopped many plans of celebration going ahead, it has shown the huge importance of volunteering with more people than ever coming forward to offer their time and get involved in their communities.

The response from local residents has been fantastic with everyone pulling together in the One Coventry way to offer support - and friendship - during this time.

We’ve had more than 600 volunteers coming forward to offer help to deliver groceries, pick up prescriptions and check in on neighbours.

Volunteers have organised mutual aid groups, helped through existing volunteering networks, helped set up food hubs across the city and offered their time in a host of different ways.

Residents have also made new friends in their communities and it is hoped that these groups and connections will continue long after this pandemic.

If you know anyone who needs help or know friends or family struggling you or they can get in touch with the Council on the customer services telephone number 08085 834333.
