The Coventry Job Shop’s popular Jobs & Skills Fair event is set to continue virtually on 7 October in order to continue helping people find work during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Job Shop usually runs several events a month to promote training and employment opportunities to those registered with The Job Shop, however due to the pandemic, The Job Shop has been offering its events virtually to ensure the safety of everyone involved.
The Jobs & Skills Fair is set to continue virtually in October, offering employers, training providers and employment support providers the chance to present short videos to those seeking employment, as well as offering a live Q&A session so participants can ask questions about upcoming roles, the application process or more about the employer/training provider.
Councillor Kevin Maton, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, said: “The Job Shop has been providing lots of its services online throughout the duration on the pandemic, which has given many people the opportunity to access the skills, training and qualifications they need to help find employment from the comfort of their own home. It’s a great time to consider learning something new if you are seeking employment.”
To date, 18 employers, including large regional employers, such as HS2 and National Express, and 18 training providers, have taken part in the Virtual Jobs & Skills Fairs since May. Over 4,500 people have viewed the session and over 100 people have taken part in the live Q and A sessions.
Councillor Jim O’Boyle, Cabinet Member for Jobs and Regeneration, said: “Unfortunately, there are many people who have been made redundant or lost their jobs over the past few months. Being able to help people safely get back to work, ask the questions, get help with applications, find support online and getting into jobs is really going to help get the economy moving again.”
The next Virtual Jobs & Skills Fair will take place on 7 October, with the link going live on 2pm. The Q&A sessions will be held on 8 and 9 October.
