Cold weather alert

Published Wednesday, 23 December 2020

A severe cold weather alert has been issued by the Met Office for the West Midlands with a 70% probability of severe cold weather/icy conditions between 0100 on Thursday 24 Dec and 2300 on Friday 25 Dec.

Cold weather can lead to serious health problems and can kill. Older people, those with chronic health conditions and people who have a disability, are particularly at risk during the cold weather.

Advice on how to handle cold weather can be found on the Government's website.

Everyone is advised to keep warm and healthy by keeping rooms heated to at least 18oC throughout the day and night and to wear suitable clothing – several thin layers is better than one thick layer. It is also recommended that people keep an eye on the weather forecast when planning activities.

For anyone living in Warwickshire or Coventry who needs advice and is worried about keeping their home warm, there is a free service, run by Act on Energy. The service can help with fuel bills and benefits advice entitlements, as well as whether you are eligible for heating and insulation measures, so call  Act on Energy on 0800 988 2881.
