More athletes are set to join Team Coventry for the International Children’s Games, as the tennis selection event takes place next month.

The next selection event for young athletes from the city to attend will be tennis for both boys and girls.

The tennis selection will take place on 10 April at the University of Warwick Tennis Centre. Two sessions will be available to choose from; 2pm – 3.30pm or 4pm – 5.30pm.

Inspire2Coach Tennis and CV Life along with clubs from around the city will be delivering the selection event and talent spotting throughout to help finalise the tennis players that will represent Team Coventry – sponsored by Bericote and Glencar Construction - during the International Children’s Games from 11-16 August 2022.

Athletes do not have to be a member of a club or from a school team to try-out for tennis.

Andy Williams, Director of Business, Investment and Culture, Coventry City Council, said: “This is more great news for the International Children’s Games and another step in putting together Team Coventry. The tennis selection will be brilliant and I look forward to seeing some talented athletes make the next stage of selection ahead of seeing the final squad reveal.”

Danny Kingham, Team Coventry Manager, said: “Just like all of the previous selection events, we are really looking forward to the tennis. It’s another opportunity to find more athletes to join the team and it will be great to have the tennis players on board.”

The tennis try-out sessions will consist of a warm-up, drill sections – both singles and doubles – and competitive match play – also both singles and doubles.

Brad Rowbottom, Inspire2Coach, said: “I’m really pleased to be a part of the International Children’s Games and helping support and deliver the tennis selection event for Team Coventry. I’m looking forward to watching some talented players try out for the final team."

A squad will be selected from the try-out session. The selected athletes will then go onto a training camp with a number of sessions taking place between May and July which will help determine the final athletes that will represent Team Coventry during the Games.
