An event will take place at Central Library on Wednesday 20 April between 5.30pm and 7pm to highlight the importance and impact of regional newspapers and their evolvement from printed copies to the now digital element.
In Conversation will be a three way in conversation style event with two former editors of the Coventry Evening Telegraph - Neil Benson and Keith Perry hosted by Dr Rachel Matthews from Coventry University.
Neil Benson edited the Coventry Evening Telegraph in the early 1990s, when regional newspapers were the only game in town for local news, sport and advertising. Keith Perry was editor of the Coventry Telegraph for five years, during a period of rapid structural change in the industry, leading the transformation of the newsroom into a digital-first operation and relaunching the website as CoventryLive. Dr Rachel Matthews is a historian of the local newspaper, working in the School of Media and Performing Arts at Coventry University.
The event runs alongside a major exhibition being hosted at Central Library called Breaking the News created by The British Library. The exhibition explores the power of the news to shape opinions, decisions and arguments.
