The international City Nature Challenge takes place this bank-holiday weekend and Coventry City Council needs your help to get our city on the leaderboard!
The City Nature Challenge involves residents of participating cities and visitors logging as many wildlife sightings as possible using the iNaturalist app on smart-phones and tablets.
You can take part anywhere (especially in Coventry!) by recording any wildlife you see using the iNaturalist app which can be downloaded from the relevant app store via https://uk.inaturalist.org/.
Unsure what you've seen or heard whilst exploring Coventry's green spaces? Take a picture or recording using the app and hundreds of scientists and naturalists across the world will help you identify it.
As part of the weekend's celebration of wildlife around the world, two events will be taking place in Coventry this weekend.
Join the Park Rangers and the City Council's Ecologist on a walk around two of Coventry's most nature-rich parks over the weekend, spotting and logging as many wildlife sightings as possible.
The walks will take place on:
- Saturday 30 April – Longford Nature Park. 11am – 1pm.
Please walk, cycle or use public transport if possible, as parking in the area is limited.
Visitors should initially gather to meet the Park Rangers in Longford Park car park, off Longford Road (What3words address: ///translated.found.outer)
- Sunday 1 May – Wyken Croft Nature Park. 11am – 1pm
We recommend parking in the car parks off Hermes Crescent, and will meet at the cycle path entrance which is adjacent to the bridge on Wyken Croft Road. The what3words address for this is ///almost.fence.income
The walks will both start at 11.30am and will take approximately an hour.
The rangers will also be doing some activities for children so bring the family!
Visitors are advised to wear footwear and outdoor clothing as some areas may be wet and muddy.
