The Through Care Team and Virtual School joined forces with the NHS to help care leavers consider their first steps in the world of work.
They staged a special event so the young people could meet the Council’s Apprenticeship Team and staff from the local NHS Trust to talk about possible training and career opportunities.
There was also advice on the Apprenticeship Bursary for Care Leavers and the young people were offered places on upcoming employability programmes and careers advice sessions.
Everyone who attended said they found the event useful, and many went away energised about opportunities that they can consider.
Cllr Patricia Seaman, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “It was a great event and the teams did a wonderful job in helping the young people think about their next steps and the careers they could build.
“Through Care and the Virtual School have worked together for some time now and it’s so heartwarming to see the exceptional support they offer to care leavers applying for vacancies, as well as the ongoing support once they are in post.
“Thank you also to the NHS, who signed up to the Care Leavers’ Covenant last year, and since then has consistently promoted options including training, work experience, and apprenticeships within Coventry and the surrounding areas. The support from their Employability Academy has been above and beyond, and they welcome our care leavers with open arms.
“It is a fantastic example of how the Council and partners work together as One Coventry to help those who need it.”
