The Council runs 1000 hectares of parks, open spaces and Woodlands across over 440 sites - including six Green Flag awarded sites.
The best thing about them is the free activities that cater for all ages.
One of The Green Flags parks is Coombe Abbey Park where from Monday 3 November, another free play facility will be available for children young and old to enjoy.
Hermit’s Hollow, is set deep within the woods of Coombe Abbey Park, and will be available as a free facility that offers a wide variety of adventure play features incorporated into the play structures, allowing visitors to navigate the Hollow’s various bridges, walkways, ramps and tunnels.
Visitors will also find the Hermit’s talking tube to send secret messages to friends, clamber high amongst the treetops on the upper level of the Canopy Spire, or whizz back to the ground on the spiralling tube slide or the accessible-to-all companion slide. Toddlers have their own mini-adventure to enjoy.
Toilets and catering will be at Top Pool, around 2 minutes walk from Hermit’s Hollow, as the existing mobile toilets and café will close.
The theme of the play facility is based on a notable period of Coombe’s nearly 900-year history when it was the residence of Princess Elizabeth, daughter of King James I in the early 1600s.
During her time there, the princess was gifted an ‘island’ within the grounds where she ordered the creation of a cottage for a widow and her children, where fowls would be kept, and it was given the appearance of a type of building known as a hermitage.
Councillor Abdul Salam Khan, Deputy Leader of Coventry City Council, said: “I’m delighted that it is now free for visitors. Hermit’s Hollow is a wonderful facility for visitors to enjoy and it means there is even more choice for people when they visit Coombe Abbey Park.
Hermit’s Hollow compliments the existing free play facility situated next to the Visitor Centre which has been a real hit since opening in 2022 to mark the Platinum Jubilee of Elizabeth II.
Cllr Khan, added: “Parks are an integral part of life in Coventry, and these are among the city’s greatest attractions.”
Coombe Park also has a Changing Places facility next to the Visitor Centre which are the most advanced form of accessible toilet with specialist equipment so there is less to worry about and more time to enjoy the venues facilities. You can also find other Changing Places in Coventry.
