About

Coventry Libraries and information service has been an essential provider of fee books, information, ideas and education for Coventry for over 100 years. Did you know there are 17 public Libraries in Coventry? Find your local Library here

How to join

Adults

To join a library please visit any library, or complete a library application form online. All you need is proof of your address. Normally one of the following is all you need:

  • Driving licence
  • Benefits / pension books
  • Bills: gas, electricity, council tax, water rates or similar
  • Other documents such as your medical card (typed) or council rent book (typed)

Other identification may be OK, but please ring the library before you visit to check. This will save you time when you join.

We will give you a library card - if at a later date you change your name, address or phone number please tell us so we can keep our records up to date.

Planning a visit to Coventry from outside the UK?

Coventry Libraries and information service and its eBook, eAudio & eMagazine service is only accessible to those who live inside the UK. Please visit a Coventry Library to sign up for a temporary Library Card.

How much can I borrow?

There are different loan periods for different items. There are also limits to the amount of items you can borrow at any time:

  • Books - 4 weeks, up to 20 at one time
  • DVDs - 2 nights or 1 week, up to 4 at one time
  • Compact Discs - 1 week, up to 8 at one time
  • Talking Books - 4 weeks, up to 8 at one time

Children and young people

Children over 8 years of age can be unaccompanied and join the library to borrow two books (no CDs) without a parent's signature. For full borrowing rights, they must hand in an Application for Membership with a parent's signature.

Children under 8 years of age can join the library with a parent's signature - they should always be accompanied in the library. We need a completed Application for Membership, which can be provided in person or printed from the download links and returned to the library.

There is no minimum age for children to join the library. We don't need proof of address if you are under 16, but a parent or carer must sign the form before you can borrow any items.
