Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support

Council Tax Support

Council Tax Support changed in April 2016

Due to the Government reducing the grants we receive, Coventry reduced the amount it pays out in Council Tax Support from 1 April 2016 to all working age residents so we could make the required savings of £2.4 million.

Second Adult Rebate was also abolished for working age residents.

Who did these changes affect?

If you are of pension age then you were not affected by the changes to the scheme.

A 25 per cent discount still applies to all single households.

People who are exempt from paying Council Tax because they are severely mentally impaired and live on their own were not affected.

Because the Government has reduced our funding, all working age residents now have to pay a minimum of 15% towards their Council Tax.

If you require more information on how to pay your council tax please visit our page on how to pay your Council Tax.

You will receive your Council Tax bill in March telling you how much you have to pay.
