NIHR. HDRC. Coventry HDRC’s ‘So What?’ Club 29 July 2025. Access to the school breakfast program is associated with higher attendance and test scores among elementary school children. Lisa Young, Programme Officer, Inequalities

The Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) Coventry organised another successful 'So What?' Club event in July.

These interactive sessions demonstrate how research papers can be used to help inform evidence-based decisions in services and policies. Our aim is to ensure that all examples are relevant to all service areas within Coventry City Council, helping to solve problems and develop new solutions related to the wider determinants of health.

We were pleased to welcome 44 attendees. Those in attendance included representatives from voluntary, community and social enterprises (VCSEs), as well as from various Coventry City Council directorates.

There were lively discussions on a paper evaluating research on school breakfast programmes in the US, and on whether and how the findings could be applied to Coventry. Have a look at the paper.

The next 'So What?' Club will take place on 27 August 2025 from 9:30am to 10:30am. Everyone is welcome to come along, regardless of their experience of academic research. To register, please complete the online form.  You will then receive a calendar invite.
