We are pleased to announce that the HDRC's Public Voice Group (PVG) has now been operating for one year. Here, we share insights into the experiences of our members.
The PVG is a space where Coventry residents can discuss local issues and participate in research projects. The group has now been operating for 12 months. Kezia Davies, our public involvement intern working with the HDRC and Coventry City Council, interviewed seven PVG members to find out about their experiences of working with the group.
She collected members’ reflections, research interests, and suggestions for improvement into a report which will input into the group’s development going forward.
The PVG members feedback was overall very positive; they felt comfortable talking about local issues and believe their opinions are valued. Most said their understanding of research had improved, which has made them more aware of how important public involvement is.
Everyone agreed the group is welcoming and includes people from different backgrounds, though some think more people from the community could be involved. Many said being part of the group helped them grow personally, as it gave them a sense of identity, pride, and boosted their confidence.
Suggestions for improvement mostly focused on wanting to be more active in the group - such as getting more updates, clearer information, more training, and more involvement in research.
We are looking for more committed individuals to join our Public Voice Group
Involving the residents and workers of Coventry is a top priority for us. We value their unique views and ideas. We are committed to ensuring that everyone's voice is heard.
We plan to involve local residents in selecting research topics. Additionally, we want their input in designing services and facilities that affect them.
We are looking for individuals who:
