The Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) Coventry organised another successful 'So What?' Club. We discussed the relationship between daily steps and health outcomes.
Sam Mckeown, Public Health Officer in Healthy Lifestyles, Long-term Conditions, and Mental Health and Wellbeing at Coventry City Council, along with Cameron Ley, Research Fellow in Evidence Synthesis for the HDRC, hosted this month’s session.
Sam presented a systematic review examining the relationship between daily steps and health outcomes, including all-cause mortality, cardiovascular disease, cancer, type 2 diabetes, cognitive and mental health outcomes, physical function and falls.
Take a look at the paper and, if you are interested, look at the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme checklists to assess a paper's quality and usefulness.
Attendees had the opportunity to discuss the findings of the study and whether the methods were appropriate for answering the posed questions. We then talked about how the findings can be applied to work here in Coventry.
We were pleased to welcome 18 attendees. These included representatives from our partner organisations, including NIHR HDRC, as well as representatives from various Coventry City Council directorates, and the NHS.
The next 'So What?' Club will take place on Monday, 27 October, 09:30 am - 10:30am. Everyone is welcome to come along, regardless of their experience of academic research. To register, please complete the online form. You will then receive a calendar invite.
We are looking forward to seeing you at the Club!
