Awatif shared her reflections on her placement:
“I was drawn to volunteer at Coventry HDRC for its focus on improving the health, wellbeing and quality of life of local people with an evidence basis – something that is very important to me.
I contacted Dr Chloe Ryder about any volunteering opportunities and from then, she was so helpful with finding a project that aligned with my interest, helping me settle in, and supporting me with the actual research.
In my project, I investigated the influential factors in child development in Coventry, with a focus on gender differences. It provided me with the experience that I was looking for and the opportunity to work with other people with the Council such as Amanda King (Early Years’ lead).
What really struck me was how dedicated everyone was in what they do and how they truly strive for positive change in Coventry, as well as ensuring the community voice is heard."
