About Coventry Register Office

The Register Office has been present in Coventry since the first legal requirement to register births, still-births, deaths and marriages was introduced.

Coventry Register Office has been located in its current premises since the mid-1960s. It adjoins a medieval manor house, which in the 14th Century, was part of the estate of Edward III, who settled it on the Black Prince. It is the oldest building in the country in use as a Statutory Register Office ceremony room.

In addition to registering today's events, the Register Office holds all the original birth, marriage and death registers from 1837 to the present day. They are much used by family historians and genealogists to carry out family and local history research.
