Licensing and Regulatory Committee

The Licensing and Regulatory Committee makes decisions on various licensing matters (such as alcohol, public entertainment, gambling, taxis and private hire) and on various public protection prosecutions brought by the City Council. The Committee has 14 councillors and is split into 2 Sub-Committees to consider applications of Hackney Carriage and Private-Hire Driver's Licences. A Sub-Committee meets every 4 weeks.

When decisions that impact licensing as a whole need to be taken, the full Licensing and Regulatory Committee will be convened as and when required.

Sometimes, Sub-Committee Hearings made up of a panel of 3 members of the Licensing and Regulatory Committee will be arranged to look at particular licensing applications, for example where there have been objections from local residents or the police.
