Carers trust spotlight

#CovConnects has been supporting Carers Trust Heart of England’s digital inclusion activities in Coventry.

Carers Trust Heart of England is a charity that supports and improves the lives of children and adult carers across Coventry and Warwickshire. They provide a range of services that help ensure unpaid carers feel valued, respected, and supported in their caring role.

Carers Trust Heart of England became a #CovConnects Partner in August 2023 after a successful application to the #CovConnects Device Bank.

They initially received Chromebook devices which they distributed gifted to all age carers to enable them to access digital technology and the internet.

After the #CovConnects Team identified a further need for support, Carers Trust Heart of England received additional devices including Chromebooks and Mi-Fi connectivity dongles which helped to ensure that the carers had strong, secure connection to the internet.

Carers Trust Heart of England reported that the carers who were given devices have benefited massively from receiving them. They reported feeling more confident in themselves and their digital skills in addition to being able to keep in touch with family and friends.

Most recently, Carers Trust Heart of England received additional devices to ensure that volunteers who facilitate rest and respite groups in Coventry are digitally included and equipped to support the well-being of carers.

Jodie Cotterrell, a Young Carers Manager at Carers Trust Heart of England, said:

“Carers Trust Heart of England wishes to extend its deepest gratitude to #CovConnects. These devices have been instrumental in supporting countless unpaid carers across Coventry who were previously digitally excluded.

Through our partnership we have been able to address the pressing needs of all ages bridging the digital divide and empowering carers to access the benefits of the digital world! From enhancing educational prospects for young carers to increased economic participation and improved social inclusion, the feedback from our carers has been profound.

As a Charity we have been grateful for the additional laptops which has supported our staff and volunteers in delving respite sessions, enhancing our ability to provide crucial support.

Thank you #CovConnects for helping us create a more inclusive and empowered community for our wonderful carers!
