#CovConnects is working in partnership with Holbrooks Community Care Association, Coventry Adult Education Service and EnV to hold Digital Drop-in sessions for Holbrooks residents.
In February and March of 2023, a pilot six-week set of structured Digital Skills courses took place at Holbrooks Community Care Association where residents learnt from an Adult Education Digital Skills Tutor as well as Digital Champion volunteers.
During the six-week course, attendees learnt valuable skills such as being aware of what scams look like, how to send emails, shopping online, searching the internet safely and correctly filling in online forms.
The course has had a big impact on its attendees. Jenny, an attendee in her 60s, found the support from her tutor invaluable, she told us that after taking part in the six week course she now feels much more digitally able. Jenny was even able to save £40 by changing internet providers after using a comparison website!
Another resident, Clive, told us that he now feels more confident using the internet and feels more secure after learning how to search the internet and shop online safely.
Clive said: “Having an actual person teach me, has been a god send for me. While I can manage, often with a struggle, she made everything so clear and easy to understand. With my illness, I find internet shopping a real lifeline for me, but I always worried about where is safe to use my bank details. I now feel more confident in doing so and can’t wait to learn more in the future. I would love to learn about using word and excel.”
As a result of the success, Digital Drop-ins will now continue to run at Holbrooks Community Care Association. Digital Drop-ins are an informal, friendly space where there are no silly questions. Sessions are tailored to what residents want to learn about.
The sessions take place at the Holbrooks Community Care Association, 115 Holbrook Ln, Coventry CV6 4DE.
The sessions run every Friday from 1pm – 3pm.
