Getting Building Fund (GBF)

In August 2020, the Government announced a £900 million Getting Building Fund to deliver jobs, skills and infrastructure across the country. This investment is being targeted in areas facing the biggest economic challenges as a result of the pandemic. It is supporting the delivery of shovel-ready infrastructure projects, to boost economic growth, and fuel local recovery and jobs.

Coventry and Warwickshire were awarded £19.825m to aid the recovery from the pandemic in the region. Projects include Warwickshire Cycle Expansion network, Stratford Upon Avon College’s Media Training Centre, Very Light Rail Project and continued support to complete the Cultural Capital Programme which also supported Coventry during the City of Culture year in 2021.

The programme is delivering significant outputs for the region, including 700 jobs created or safeguarded, 229 Apprenticeships, 13.2km of new cycle pathways and over 160 Electronic Vehicle charging points to encourage the uptake in Electronic Vehicles.

Coventry City Council operates as the Accountable Body for the funding on behalf of the CWLEP and the West Midland Combined Authority.
