Introduction to Hospitality, Catering & Event Management
Course Outline
Designed and delivered by a professionally qualified and experienced delivery team of industry experts, careers advisers and teachers, the course provides a practical introduction to Hospitality, Catering and Even Management. It’s highly inter-active, pupil-centred, and ‘hands-on’ with practical activities including making food dishes from around the world. There is engagement with at least one local employer either face-to-face or via our digital employer engagement programme, Let’s Do Business. The course provides evidence for schools in relation to meeting Gatsby Benchmark and enables learners to see the connection between education and employment. It gives learners the skills to increase education and career knowledge, opportunities and future success. During the course, learners have professional support from a L6 or L7 experienced Careers Adviser, and they capture the employability skills they develop through our Skills Builder passport and their technical skills in our portfolio of evidence. Learners also develop Life Skills including Listening, Speaking, Problem-solving, Staying positive, Aiming high, Teamwork, Time management, Creativity Planning, Research, and Leadership.

Student Expected Outcomes
Learners gather evidence of the new skills and knowledge they gain and receive a Career Seekers Direct certificate of participation recognising their achievement. They also receive a folder to keep all evidence and materials in e.g. photos of participation. The wellbeing of learners is assessed both pre and post-course with follow up on any issues identified.

Programme length
The course normally runs one day per week for 6 weeks but can be extended or run more than one day a week. The course can only run with a minimum of 6 learners which may be all from one school or a mix from different schools.
