A personal and social development course for Primary school pupils in years 5 and 6 at risk of disengaging with learning.
Aims
- To build learners’ confidence and develop their personal and social skills to stay engaged in education
- To raise their ambition and aspirations
- To increase their self-awareness and resilience
- Increased emotional control and emotional intelligence
- To develop techniques to cope with situations they find challenging
The course is highly inter-active, learner-centred, and ‘hands-on’ with practical activities based on Art & Design, Construction, Games Design, Retail, Recycling & Upcycling.

Student Expected Outcomes
Learners gather evidence of the new skills and knowledge they gain (see course outline) and receive a Career Seekers Direct certificate of participation recognising their achievement. They also receive a folder to keep all evidence and materials in e.g. photos of participation.

Programme length
The course normally runs one day per week for 6 weeks but can be extended or run more than one day a week. The course can only run with a minimum of 6 learners which may be all from one school or a mix from different schools.
