Overview
This course provides a structured introduction to the principles of still life drawing, supporting learners in developing observational skills and technical confidence. Working from carefully arranged objects, participants will explore line, tone, proportion, and composition to create accurate and expressive drawings.
Through a series of guided, tutor-led exercises, learners will build an understanding of how to represent form, light, and shadow, while developing greater control of mark-making techniques. The course encourages careful observation and thoughtful composition, enabling learners to interpret everyday objects with increased accuracy and creativity.
Suitable for beginners and those looking to refresh their skills, this course offers a supportive environment in which to build a strong foundation in drawing, leading to a portfolio of completed still life studies.
Course level and content
Suitable for beginners and those with some prior experience, this course provides an opportunity to build practical skills while engaging with the calming, restorative benefits of creative practice. By the end of the course, learners will have produced a collection of autumn-inspired artworks and gained a deeper understanding of how art can support overall wellbeing.

ENGAGING WITH YOUR PERSONAL LEARNING RECORD (PLR) PAPERWORK
All community learning courses require learners to engage with Personal Learning Record (PLR) paperwork. At the beginning of the course, you will be supported in setting personal learning aims, which will guide your development over the duration of the programme. Your tutor will assess your progress at key points—at the start, mid-point, and conclusion of the course—providing written feedback to help document your learning and achievements.
