Course Outline
A therapeutic swimming and movement‑based wellbeing programme designed to support emotional regulation, confidence, sensory balance, physical development and resilience. Learners engage in structured swimming sessions, water‑confidence activities, stroke development, sensory regulation and calm, repetitive movement to build stability, trust and positive coping strategies. The programme blends SEMH‑informed practice, trauma‑aware coaching and personalised water‑based development plans.
Course Modules
Water safety & pool awareness Breathing, floating & calm movement Water confidence building Stroke development — front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke (adapted to ability) Sensory regulation through water‑based grounding Strength & endurance through structured swimming drills Emotional regulation using repetitive movement Confidence building & achievement milestones Nature‑based wellbeing (where outdoor water spaces are used) Teamwork, communication & positive peer interaction Personalised swimming therapy plans Progress tracking, wellbeing reflections & mentor feedback Final swimming challenge, skill review & progression pathways

Admissions Criteria
Suitable for pupils requiring SEMH support, sensory regulation, confidence building, structured movement or alternative provision pathways. No prior swimming experience required.
Staff Experience
Qualified swimming mentors and youth practitioners trained in SEMH, trauma‑informed practice, safeguarding, water safety and therapeutic movement.
