Course details

It is important for staff to have up-to-date knowledge of medicines handling and administration in order to remain confident and competent in the workplace and to reduce the likelihood of medicines errors. This is a theory-based course and should be supported with work-based competency assessments.

Learning outcomes:

  • Assessing competence effectively
  • Undertaking error reporting
  • Managing medication incidents

Course content:

  • Overview of medication management
  • Using a competency assessment tool
  • Competency assessment scenarios & practice video
  • Exercises & activities to assess the competence of recording
  • Activities to evaluate staff members' understanding 
  • Management of medication incidents/Case studies on incident management
  • Coaching principles
  • Safeguarding
  • Action planning
  • Detailed question and answer session
Course length
1 day (2 x 3 hour sessions) online via Zoom or 1 day classroom based

Meets The Care Certificate Standards 13.5a, 13.5b, 13.5c
Qualifications

Outcomes support knowledge for:

  • Adult Care Worker Diploma Level 2
  • Lead Adult Care Worker Diploma Level 3
