Course details

Course objectives:

  • To identify the statutory fire safety arrangements required within buildings
  • To explain fire alarm, emergency evacuation procedures and staff roles
  • To discuss fire hazards and how staff can help to prevent and reduce these
  • To identify the different types of fire extinguishers and explain their use

Course content:

  • Identify the need for a fire risk assessment to be completed to identify fire hazards, risks and control measure
  • Recognise employer and employee responsibilities in respect of fire safety
  • Understand the need for resident/service user assessments to be completed to identify potential fire risks with individuals
  • Recognise how to use oxygen safely
  • Describe fire prevention measures within premises
  • Explain how fire and smoke spread
  • Explain the different types of fire extinguishers available to aid escape
Course length
1 hour 30 minutes via Microsoft Teams

Meets CQC Standards S2 – Points 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 8 R2 – Point 3 W2 – Point 3, 9 & 10 W3 & W4 – Whole of standard point. Meets requirement of the Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order 2005 and the Fire Safety (Employees Capabilities) Regulations (England) 2010
