Councillor Jim O’Boyle: It’s a very important day where we’ve took a further step in upgrading and improving Upper Precinct, and you can see behind me, I’m standing right in front of what was Ernest Jones, the jewellers, and of course, the ramp that went up to the upper part of Upper Precinct. Of course, we made the decision and we made the promise we were going to remove this, opening up the traditional sightlines where you could see from the Precinct, right up to the Cathedral Spires. Well, that is happening, it’s happening today, very very exciting. All the work is continuing, it’s on schedule to be finished in the middle of May, in time for City of Culture and this will really mark an important moment in the revamp of £44m of public realm work going on in the city centre. Best of the old with the best of the new, getting rid of the ramp, actually opening up, as I said, those traditional sight lines that people love and remember, because I look forward to seeing you all when the restrictions are lifted and we can go out and about on our business, enjoying our brand new beautiful Upper Precinct and the rest of the precincts in Coventry city centre.
