Cllr Jim O’Boyle: Hello, I’m Cllr Jim O’Boyle. I’m here in the courtyard of St Mary’s Guildhall and I’m with Cllr David Welsh who is the Cabinet Member for Heritage. We’re having a look round today to see the progress on the fantastic work that’s going on in the Guildhall. We’ve seen a few things today David what do you think of progress so far.

Cllr David Welsh: I think it’s really good. Even though the work has just started we can see some of the great things that have been uncovered already. It’s really really exciting. A real transformation already and it’s only just started.

Cllr Jim O’Boyle: And of course, they’re looking to put the tapestry in a new case to preserve that for the future as well, aren’t they?

Cllr David Welsh: Yeh so the tapestry will have a few bits of work done to it. A bit of restoration and then it will be put into a new display cabinet that will just show it off even better.

Cllr Jim O’Boyle: See the things that are happening here in Coventry this year to preserve both this beautiful building for the future but also opening it up to the public. We’ve got some really exciting plans. This’ll be finished by the end of this year. We’ve got some exciting plans for how we’ll actually be able to run the place, run St Mary’s Guildhall going forward. We want to preserve our heritage for the future, but we also want people to see it. This will no longer be Coventry’s best-known secret. It’ll be Coventry’s best open secret so people can come and see it. Exciting times.
