Cllr O’Boyle: Hello I’m Cllr Jim O’Boyle from Coventry City Council. I’m here with the leader of Coventry City Council, Cllr George Duggins. We're on the site of what is going to be the new building at Friargate. Work is just about to start, it’s started today. George, tell me what does this mean for Coventry?

Cllr George Duggins: “I think it's a great opportunity going forward and at the moment of course everybody's thinking about what the economy is going to look like in a few years’ time and this really does give us the opportunity to say that Coventry is going to go forward and move out of Covid.

Cllr O’Boyle: “Thank you Georg. One of the things that's worth saying people often ask, ‘why do we need office space at this time?’ Well actually Coventry still has far less than the England average of good high-quality office space. We're talking with agents, we're talking with companies who want to come and locate in Coventry and they're saying in the future they might not need as much but they still need some and we're behind the curve on this with comparable cities. So, this is really important. As well as the construction, four or five hundred jobs will be created in the future. Hundreds more jobs will be created bringing people into the city, creating good economic uplift for this city. So, today is a good day for Coventry. Work has started on Friargate Two.
