Work Related Learning opportunities - SEND Local Offer for Coventry

There is a range of work related learning options including Apprenticeships, Traineeships and Supported Internships.

Entry requirements vary depending on the opportunity.

Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships combine practical training in a job with study. They can take between one and four years to complete depending on the level.  An apprentice will work at least 30 hours a week and receive the national minimum wage for apprentices. As an apprentice, a young person will be studying for a national qualification, either in their place of work or in a classroom. This can be for one day per week or for specific blocks of time.

Supported Internships

A supported internship is a study programme that includes an unpaid work experience offered by a local employer that will last between six and twelve months.  This option may be right for a young person if they are between 16 -24 with an Education Health and Care Plan and they want to work towards being in employment but may require extra support to do so. There are no entry or completion requirements. Each learning provider will work with the young person to develop a personalised programme that meets your needs and provides progression.

Traineeship

A traineeship is an unpaid training course with work experience that gets a young person ready for work or for an apprenticeship. It can last up to six months. The aim of a traineeship is to provide work preparation, English and Maths training for those who need it and a work experience.

Training providers

• Coventry City Council run a variety of different opportunities that are open to young people and adults, these include Apprenticeships, training courses, part time leisure and accredited courses, supported learning and ESF funded projects.
• Building Better Opportunities - Progress. (BBO) Progress is a project that works with young people ages 15-24 years to support them to a successful future. Partners include Positive Youth Foundation (PYF), Hereward College, Coventry Citizens Advice, Groundwork West Midlands, Valley House and Voluntary Action Coventry (VAC) and others. Referrals can be made to the individual partner organisations.
• SCL offers Sports study programmes plus Maths and English. Telephone 0354 644 5747.
• CWT Chamber Training. Offers a range of apprenticeships and is a partner of Coventry City Council Ambition programme. Telephone 024 7623 1122.
• Heart of England Training: Offers study programmes in a variety of vocational areas. Telephone 0800 0281 576.
• MGTS (Midland group training services): Offers Apprenticeships in Engineering Telephone 024 7663 0333.
• Moor Farm Individually tailored programmes in horse care and small animal care. Telephone 01676 540594.
• Petxi – Can offer study programmes in Coventry for learners aged 19+. Telephone 024 7642 0310.
• Princes Trust. Offers short programmes for young people 16 -25 years in personal development and employability skills. Telephone 0800 842842
• WGTA (Warwickshire Garage and Transport Group). Offers apprenticeships in motor vehicle related occupations. Telephone 01926 428490.
• Motorvate and Brakes Training Limited are training providers that offer entry level qualifications in Motor Vehicle Studies and Construction. Coventry College commission these provider courses as part of their Bespoke Provision for students with additional needs that have an EHC plan.
