Course aim

This workshop is aimed at supporting practitioners who work closely with young people and families, to give a brief overview of the Prevent duty, the role of the local authority and the role of Social Workers within this.

Attendees will have an opportunity to understand some of the driving factors and influencing techniques that extremists may adopt and how to recognise when someone may be at risk of being exploited and radicalised.

The workshop will also provide strategies in effective dialogue when dealing with difficult situations and sensitive issues.

Course outcomes

By the end of the course participants will:

  • To understand the language of Prevent – an overview
  • Understanding the drivers and influences
  • Recognising vulnerabilities
  • Working effectively to manage risk – with case study examples
  • Engaging in difficult conversations with children and families.
