I'm here with uh my colleague Councillor Patricia Hetherton we're on Binley Road we're just outside the Bull's Head pub. Here's the question though why are we here there's some works going on behind us you want to reveal the reason we're here Pat. Yes it's the start of the um the Binley cycleway Jim. Um this will be six kilometres going out towards the hospital uh UHCW. We're making a difference to the junction here so that the cycleway is on this side of the road and we're making it better for them to cross over. The shops over there are a destination point that are really key to people here so it's making parking better, making sure that cyclists can make their way here, and to be able to use the facilities here. Along with that are the shopkeepers who are looking at making offers more offers to the cyclists and to encourage people to use the cycleway. And this is a segregated cycle path as well so it will be separated from pedestrians also separated from traffic obviously it makes people feel better about using a bicycle encourages them. Actually not just better it's safer because the roads these days people are frightened to go and cycle on the road we have to make sure they feel safe and provide them with a separate as you say segregated area. Okay look this is all about giving alternatives to the private car we're not against the private car but about giving alternatives looking to the future about green transport one great idea coming down Binley Road our new cycle path.
