Hi, my name is Georgia and I am a national graduate trainee at Coventry City Council, on cohort 21.

I chose the NGDP after doing my degree, because I have a passion for local government and serving the community. The NGDP seemed as
though it would fit perfectly for a recent graduate seeking experience in local government, with a variety of placements on offer.

My placements have been in financial management and part of the finance department and I have been in three teams so far. The opportunities presented as a result of being a national management trainee have been fantastic at Coventry.

It’s a really exciting time to be at the Council, with the City of Culture upcoming as well as many exciting projects across the city. I have always felt incredibly supported in anything I do by all colleagues in all teams that I've been in, and this really helped me to settle in quite quickly. I think Coventry is a fantastic council to work at, and you really feel as though your contributions are valued across the teams you have placements in.

I have also had the opportunity to be involved in the set-up of the Young Employee network, and we now have over 70 members. This really has given me a great opportunity and platform to meet directors, members of leadership teams across the Council and really help push recruitment and retention of young employees in Coventry Council. I think Coventry recognises the NGDP as a really fantastic scheme to be involved in, and that's really reflected in the types of tasks and responsibilities I have been given. It is really helped by having a mentor as well, and a placement co-ordinator because they are there to assist you with any queries or in deciding placements. Coventry Council is most certainly a council full of opportunities to be involved in!
