Council Tax Support is a means-tested discount which helps low-income households with the cost of council tax payments.

You can apply for a reduction in your council tax bill if your income is low or if you are claiming benefits.

We have had to balance our books to agree our annual Budget for 2024/25.

To do this – and avoid facing national legal sanctions – we have had to find 30 financial saving plans across our services. Council Tax Support is one of the savings included.

From 1 April 2024, the maximum level of Council Tax Support for working age households will be 80% of the council tax bill and move to an income-banded scheme.

We know this is going to be a challenge for people who can’t pay the full council tax bill, and we are happy to talk to you to see what other help and support may be available.

You can apply for Council Tax Support to help with the cost of your council tax bill, whether you own your home or rent, and whether you are unemployed or working.

Your means (income, savings and other capital) will also be looked at to see if you qualify.

Pension age households can continue to receive up to 100 per cent support depending on their circumstances.
