Example Content, which can be adapted dependent on individual needs:
Session 1: Introduction to Well-being
Introduction to the concept of "BEING" in mental health. Baseline self-assessment (including Edinburgh Mental WellBeing Scale) and individualised goal setting. Each session incorporates physical “ball” activities
Session 2: Identity and Emotional Intelligence
Exploring identity and personality types and creating personal identity maps. Physical “Ball” activities.
Session 3: Foundations of Well-being
Understanding multi-faceted nature of wellbeing, and identifying personal well-being factors.
Introducing evidence-based strategies for well-being improvement. Physical “ball” activities.
Session 4: Authenticity (Mid-point Reflection)
Using the concept of "wearing masks" to introduce vulnerability, and how it relates to mental health. Reflection on personal growth and challenges and physical “Ball” activities.
Session 5: Building Resilience
Introducing resilience theory, and incorporating personalized resilience strategies into individual resilience action plans. Physical “Ball” activities.
Session 6: Self-Empowerment, Social Connections, Celebrating Achievements
May include a combination of the following:
• Exploring positive self-talk and affirmations, developing strategies for self-advocacy and writing personal empowerment statements.
• Understanding the impact of social connections on mental health, reflections on healthy relationships.
• Reflecting on, and celebrating, achievements. Creating personal well-being maintenance plans. End of programme measures.
• Physical “Ball” Activities.
These will comprise of weekly hour-long sessions, or a lesser number of morning/afternoon sessions (to be agreed through discussion). Following on from our programmes, there are many opportunities for individuals to progress their associations with Guardian Ballers, either by: attending the Council HAF sessions; contributing to, or attending community outreach events; volunteering or developing leadership skills through the Re-present programme.

Scott Neely BSc, Head of Delivery, is a Former Basketball Professional and Level 3 Basketball Coach with 20+ years' experience and Andy Ransberry BEd is a former Teacher with 20+ years’ teaching and basketball coaching experience, including working with individuals with SEN
