Overview: This course is aimed at learners with little or no experience in dressmaking, it will enable you to make your own garments using commercial patterns as well as learn about measurements to get that perfect fitting. This is a flexible course which will give learners the opportunity to learn a range of basic dressmaking skills.
Students cannot use their own machines, due to health and safety reasons. They will be provided by the centre.

ENGAGING WITH YOUR PERSONAL LEARNING RECORD (PLR) PAPERWORK
All community learning courses require learners to engage with PLR paperwork. At the start of the course, you will record and update your learning aims which you will work towards during the duration of the course. Your tutor will assess your learning throughout the beginning, mid-point and end of the course to provide written feedback and document your progression.
Course level and content: This is a beginners course.

• A range of sewing machine skills, including foot control and seam allowance
• To measure, cut and sew garments
• To make a garment from a commercial pattern or alter a pattern to your needs
• How to source fabric
• How to use tools and equipment safely
What do you need?: • Tailor’s chalk
• Iron on interfacing
• Pattern paper
• Needles
• Pins
• Tape measure (inches/centimetres)
• Fabric scissors
• Stitch picker
• 2yds cotton fabric (for samples)
• Cotton thread (any colour)
• A4 ring binder and plastic pockets
• A4 pad, pens & pencils.
• Bobbins/cases will be issued to each learner for you to use during the duration of the course which you must bring back each week.
