Overview: In this course you will be creating simple objects in air dry clay, air dry clay needs no firing and can be modelled into many shapes and forms for decorative purposes. The clay cannot be used for food items, but can be effective in small trinket bowls, vases and many more 3D objects. This is a short course to introduce you to building with clay. It has many therapeutic properties and in this course you will create your own handmade ceramics. Initially clay will be provided, you will need to bring your own modelling materials and other materials suitable for this class.

ENGAGING WITH YOUR PERSONAL LEARNING RECORD (PLR) PAPERWORK
All community learning courses require learners to engage with Personal Learning Record (PLR) paperwork. At the beginning of the course, you will be supported in setting personal learning aims, which will guide your development over the duration of the programme. Your tutor will assess your progress at key points—at the start, mid-point, and conclusion of the course—providing written feedback to help document your learning and achievements.
Course level and content: What will I learn?

• The properties of air-dry clay and drying times
• Rolling, building, modelling, attaching clay
• Decorating and sealing clay with acrylic paints and PVA glue.

• Handouts
• Develop your own creativity by viewing the work of professional artists
What do you need?: What materials will I need?

Learners do not need to have many materials or equipment immediately –
The basic equipment consists of:
• A3 Board
• Cutting materials or craft knife
• Gloves if required
• Rolling pin
• Apron
• Jar with lid for clay slip,
• Acrylic paints if possible.

Are there any extra costs?

The tutor will advise you where to purchase tools and equipment, and their costs, as and when you require them.
What can I do next?: What will this course lead to? By the end of this course, you will have acquired the skills to enable you to create and produce your own art work, and you can continue improving your skills by enrolling on further painting or drawing courses.
