Join historian Adam Wood at Halloween for real-life tales of terror from the Coventry of long ago, when old stories of ghosts, ghouls and gruesome death abound.

What is the truth of policeman assaulted by the sobbing spirit of the Charterhouse, and the mysterious gliding white shape seen floating outside the cemetery wall? Did worshippers really see a disembodied arm carrying a torch float towards the altar at St Michael’s? And find out what happened when two men guarding a corpse lying upstairs in an empty house heard a sudden loud noise, followed by the tip-tapping of feet descending the stairs… Coventry author Adam Wood has been interested in historic true crime since being told as a young boy that his great grandfather, born in London’s east end, had seen the body of one of Jack the Ripper’s victims. Now an author, speaker and tour guide Adam was Executive Editor of Ripperologist magazine, the leading publication dedicated to serious study of the Whitechapel murders, for more than twenty-five years until 2023, when he launched a new historic crime magazine, Crime Through Time. Adam lectures at conferences and gives theatre talks, and regularly appears as a consultant on television documentaries – most recently Lucy Worsley’s Victorian Murder Club on BBC2 – and on radio and podcast shows. He is passionate about sharing history in an accessible way which makes it both interesting and enjoyable.
