National Day of Action for Nature

Join us for a day full of hands-on activities to help local wildlife and explore nature.

To introduce the new plans for the conversion of the footgolf course into a new biodiverse hub for nature and wildlife the friends of memorial park and parks staff will be hosting a day of action.

Activities throughout the day include:

  • survey and record wildlife via the iNaturalist app
  • guided bird walk
  • guided pond dip
  • sweep netting activity
  • bird box and bug hotel making
  • litter picking
  • bark rubbing
  • wildflower safari
  • labyrinth wildflower planting

Help us explore and create new areas for wildlife in the park, and find out about our exciting plans for the former footgolf course. Why not sign up to volunteer with us too! Meet us at the Visitor Centre.

iNaturalist App

A key feature of this year’s event is the use of iNaturalist, a free nature‑recording app.

The app involves an online social network of people sharing biodiversity information across the globe to help each other learn about nature.

By photographing plants, insects, birds and other species, anyone can contribute valuable data that helps build a clearer picture of biodiversity.

All observations made in the War Memorial Park on the day will automatically feed into a dedicated iNaturalist project page created for this event.

The project page will act as a live record of the park’s wildlife, allowing participants to see what others have discovered, track species diversity and contribute to an ongoing community effort to better understand nature in Coventry.

You can also view all the species already recorded in the park on the War Memorial Park observation page.
