Coventry vaisakhi

Sikh religious celebration of the creation of the Khalsa by Guru Gobind Singh ji in 1699.

Several Coventry roads will be closed as the Sikh community marks Vaisakhi. Over 10,000 people are expected to attend the Nagar Kirtan in Foleshill.

Charities including PTSD Resolution, the Coventry Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre (CRASAC), and the Meningitis Research Foundation will each be given £501. Five Sikhs known as the Panj Pyare will lead the procession through the city on Sunday, April 26.

Vaisakhi commemorates the founding of the Khalsa by Guru Gobind Singh in 1699. Colourful floats will form part of the procession in Foleshill, including one carrying the sacred writings of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

Refreshments will be provided for both participants and onlookers in keeping with the Sikh ethos of 'Seva.' Attendees can also enjoy a Gatka display at Gurdwara Guru Nanak Parkash.

Starting at 10am, the procession will begin at Gurdwara Guru Nanak Parkash on Harnall Lane West and return around 3pm. Parking will be available on Bath Street, near the junction of Stoney Stanton Road and Harnall Lane East.
