Sounds Historical return to the Anglican Chapel with a programme that explores aspects of early modern life which people found wonderful and awe-inspiring. Generously supported by Continuo Foundation
Our programme explores aspects of early modern life which people found wonderful and awe-inspiring – from mythology to mathematics, from astrology to astronomy – and from inexplicable weather to a lost whale.
The study of the heavens was shifting from astrologers to the new-fangled science of astronomy, where scientists like Galileo courted danger by publishing scientific discoveries at odds with church doctrine.
Music by court astronomer to George III William Herschel, Muday, Bach, Purcell, Telemann and an anonymous ballad celebrating Chester’s unexpected monstrous fish!
