Discover the vibrant sounds of the Steelpan in this engaging, hands-on workshop led by award-winning performer and educator Fareed Siddiqui of Impact Steel Band. Perfect for beginners and open to all experience levels, the session will introduce participants to the basics of Steelpan playing, starting with simple scales before learning one of the first melodies ever performed on the instrument. Time permitting, participants will also learn a short performance piece. Alongside practical playing, Fareed will share the fascinating history and cultural heritage of the Steelpan, exploring its origins in Trinidad and Tobago and its journey to becoming a celebrated instrument worldwide. The workshop concludes with a live performance, filling the Albany Theatre with the distinctive sounds of the Caribbean. Suitable for adults aged 18 and over. Impact Steel Band was founded in Coventry in 2007 by band leader Fareed Siddiqui and is dedicated to inspiring and developing the next generation of Steelpan players. Through workshops, educational programmes and live performances, the band has engaged audiences across the UK and internationally, sharing their passion for this unique musical tradition.
