Join us this August for a series of free family-friendly nature activities at War Memorial Park. Come along to learn new skills, get creative, and discover the wildlife that calls the park home.
All activities are free to attend, no booking required! Just head behind the Visitor Centre and join in. All events run from 10.30am - 1pm.
Thursday 13 August
Rain Stick Making and Wildflower Identification
Create your own rain stick using natural materials and explore the beautiful wildflowers growing throughout the park. This hands-on session combines creativity with nature discovery, helping participants learn how to identify common wildflower species and understand their importance for local wildlife.
Saturday 15 August
Mini Beasting and Bug Hunt
Get closer to nature with an exciting bug hunt around the park. Search for mini beasts living in grassland, woodland and hidden corners, and learn fascinating facts about the insects and invertebrates that play a vital role in the environment.
Thursday 20 August
Bird Feeder Making and Bird Identification
Make a simple bird feeder to take home and discover the bird species that can be spotted in War Memorial Park. Learn tips for recognising different birds by their appearance and behaviour while finding out how to support local wildlife.
Saturday 22 August
Stick Weaving and Tree Identification
Unleash your creativity with a traditional stick weaving activity using natural materials found around the park. You'll also learn how to identify a variety of tree species and discover the important role they play in supporting biodiversity.
Thursday 27 August
Leaf Masks and Tree Identification
Collect colourful leaves and natural materials to create your own woodland-inspired mask. Along the way, take part in tree identification activities and learn more about the park's diverse range of trees and their importance to local ecosystems.
Saturday 29 August
Hibernaculum Homes and Footgolf Holes
Help create a hibernaculum, a special wildlife shelter that provides a safe place for creatures such as amphibians and invertebrates to rest and overwinter. Participants will also get involved in activities around the park's footgolf holes while learning about habitats and conservation.
