Foleshill Traffic and Parking Improvements

Earlier this year, we asked residents and businesses in Foleshill for their views on plans to improve road safety and parking in Foleshill.

Many of the plans received strong support, including:

  • improvements to Foleshill Road, including lay-bys, bollards and resurfacing (85% support)
  • new parking at Edgwick Park (88% support)
  • a one-way system on Holmsdale Road and Webster Street (70% support)
  • zebra crossings on Leicester Causeway and Springfield Road (78% support)
  • new parking controls on Blackwell Road (77% support)
  • additional crossings, parking improvements and traffic calming on Broad Street (81% support)

This work will start in phases and we will update this page regularly when the work starts.

Phase one - we expect this work to start in October 2026

Holmsdale Road and Webster Street

  • Holmsdale Road will become one-way. Drivers will enter Holmsdale Road from Foleshill Road, and leave using Broad Street. A short section near Foleshill Road will stay two-way so drivers can still access the Holmsdale Road car park
  • Webster Street will become oneway. Drivers will enter Webster Road from Broad Street and leave using Foleshill Road
  • we will put in speed cushions to slow traffic
  • a loading bay will be provided at the Holmsdale Road and Foleshill Road junction for deliveries

Blackwell Road

  • repainting of double yellow lines and parking bays
  • junction improvements

Leicester Causeway and Springfield Road

  • new zebra crossing near the Gurdwara Guru Nanak Parkash
  • new zebra crossing on Springfield Road between numbers 2 and 8
  • we are also looking into what we can do in the Broad Street area

Phase 2 - we expect this work to start in 2027

Foleshill Road

  • new lay-bys for parking and drop-off
  • new road markings and bollards
  • improved pavements

Other areas of work

  • Lockhurst lane and Livingstone Road Junction improvements
  • changes at Cross Road to help stop unsafe left turns from Stoney Stanton Road
  • better road markings at Cross Road
  • safer crossing places on Stoney Stanton Road
  • upgrades to the traffic lights on Foleshill Road
  • better access to the canal at Leicester Causeway

New parking at Edgwick Park

We want to add up to 28 new parking spaces at the front of Edgwick Park. This will need planning permission. We will make a planning application later this year.

New red route on Foleshill Road

Following feedback about dangerous pavement parking, we want to put in a red route on part of Foleshill Road to improve the management of parking and encourage people to park sensibly and safely. Red routes help keep traffic and buses moving by stopping people from parking, except in marked spaces. Stopping is not allowed on a red route, including dropping people off. A red route makes it clearer where people can and cannot park and makes enforcement action against dangerous or inconsiderate parking easier. The red route will cover the length of Foleshill Road from Blue Ribbon roundabout to Junction 9 of the Ring Road.

Residents Parking Scheme

We are also looking at an area-wide residents parking scheme to help local people park where they live. We are carrying out some work on this and will talk to residents and businesses about it later this year.
