Completed improvement works

Following public consultation, Broadgate has become the city centre's main events space. At the very heart of our city centre it has been transformed thanks to the use of the highest quality paving materials, more trees and new seating. The historic Lady Godiva statue has remained at the centre of the square, which provides the perfect location for a wide range of events, which have already included the Olympic Torch Relay, a city centre beach and farmers' markets. New hi-tech lighting will mean the square impresses day and night.

New features include:

  • New high quality granite has been laid in the square from outside NatWest round to Holy Trinity Church.
  • Lady Godiva's new plinth has been completed and plants installed
  • Granite cubes and the rising bollards have been installed at the High Street and Trinity Street entrances to Broadgate
  • Temporary works have been completed on the new Greyfriars Lane taxi rank
  • New benches, bins and the architectural and tree lighting have been installed.
  • A new sandstone-walled green has been created outside Holy Trinity Church.

Buses are now running a significant service through Ironmonger Row and combined with Queen Victoria Road, Corporation St and Council House stops, they give easy access all around Lower Precinct, West Orchards and Broadgate.
